I cannot tell you how many times I have wrangled with a tape measure. They are easy enough to use when you have to measure distances that are only 3 or 4 feet, but beyond that, they become a pain, especially when you are all on your own for the job. Well, have I got a solution for you?! Meet my new best friend, the Bosch GLM 15 laser measure. We are kind of in love with each other.

When it comes to measuring, nothing is more difficult for me than measuring the length for curtains. I typically make curtains myself, so I am not dealing with a pre-fab length. Instead, I have to hang my curtain rod at the height I want it and THEN I measure for the curtains. It's a PAIN with a measuring tape, especially when Joe is on shift and I am by myself. But, not with the Bosch GLM 15. With just one button to push, you can easily measure long distances in a matter of seconds. It's seriously awesome.

I just got mine and was beyond excited to whip it out this weekend while I was working on making curtains for our master bedroom. I hung the curtain rods first. Then I measured from the top of the curtain rod to the floor. In two seconds, I had a precise measurement without zero frustration. I just aimed, pointed the laser on the floor, and pressed the button.

Now, read on to learn how to make curtains out of sheets! It's so, so easy and inexpensive!

How to Make Curtains Out of Sheets:

Materials Needed:

  • Two twin flat sheets
  • 1/2 inch ribbon
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread

Steps:

1) Measure the length that your finished curtains will need to be. Hem the the twin sheet to the desired length. Mine required a finished length of 96 inches. I opted to use the top of the sheet as the bottom of my curtain, since it gives the look of a nice, finished hem. That means I placed the hem at the bottom of the sheet, which became the TOP of my curtain. 2) Cut ribbon into 3 inch lengths and pin them on the back of the top of your curtain, approximately 8 inches apart. I stitched the tabs approximately 1/3 of an inch from each edge of the ribbon. It took about 4 minutes per panel/sheet. GENIUS! Learn how to make curtains out of sheets! I have never seen {attractive} curtains for such a low price.

  1. I cannot tell you how many times I have wrangled with a tape measure. They are easy enough to use when you have to measure distances that are only 3 or 4 feet, but beyond that, they become a pain, especially when you are all on your own for the job.

  2. Sheet curtains look even better if you sew proper header tape to the top instead of tabs. It adds a tiny bit to the overall price, but you can gather /pinch/pleat them for a much more professional result?

  3. Love the idea and love the sheets you used! Any idea where you got them from or what the pattern is called? Thank you!

  4. love this idea, I will be making some myself you can also maybe dye some the color you need, that would be pretty!
    Thanks for the Tip!

  5. I have been doing this for years now…..finding sheets at thrift stores and using them as curtains….found one really cute sheet with hearts and decided to use for a shower curtain….you can use material for shower curtain if you have plastic backing or liner…..love rethrifting !!!!!
