Where to Hang Stockings When You Don’t Have a Mantel
Last Updated on March 3, 2022
Hey friends! Today, I am talking about a Christmas decorating dilemma… Here's the thing. Lots of people have mantels from which to hang their Christmas stockings, but lots of people don't. We have always had a mantel until we moved into our current home, which is contemporary. We have been embracing the contemporary architecture since we moved in, including totally modernizing our fireplace with a sleek concrete finish. To get the clean look we wanted, it meant we had to sacrifice a mantel. That left us with the question of where to hang stockings when you don't have a mantel.
Good news! We have solved the problem of where to hang stockings when you don't have a mantel. This solution is inexpensive and easy, a winning combination :) This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.
Where to Hang Stockings When You Don't Have a Mantel
Materials needed:
- Birch tree wood slices {these are the ones that I used from Michael’s}
- Metal hooks in any finish you like
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Command Reclosable Hanging Strips {these little strips are AH-MAZING–I use them for tons of different things}
Steps:
1) Position your hook in the center of your wood slice and mark the screw holes. Then, drill pilot holes on the spots you have marked.
2) Attach your hook.
3) Follow the instructions on the Command Reclosable Hanging Strips, positioning your strip in the middle of your wood slice.
4) Finally, attach the strips to your fireplace or wall. Again, be careful to follow the instructions provided by Command to ensure good adhesion. Then press each wood slice onto the corresponding strip and you are done! I think this is such a stylish and practical solution to the “no mantel” problem.
How easy is that?! If you don't have a fireplace, you could place these anywhere. In fact, two years ago, we hung ours on a wall near our Christmas tree.
