Happy Fall, y'all! Yes, yes, it is officially FALL and I am loving it. It's absolutely my favorite time of year! And I love adding a touch of fall to a few rooms in our home, including our kitchen since we spend so much time there. If you have followed my blog for a while, you know we have a chalkboard wall in our kitchen, so my fall decorating began with some fall chalkboard art. I am SO excited to show it to you and tell you know I did it {hint–I took the lazy way out}.

So, without further adieu, here is our fall chalkboard art!

Materials Need to Create Fall Chalkboard Art:

Before I jump into the tutorial, let me explain a bit about why I used vinyl. I have hand lettered AND traced chalkboard wall designs in the past and frankly, both methods have taken me forever and don't look perfect. Chalk just isn't dark and crisp enough and it's a mess. Chalk pens look better, but I haven't had much luck erasing them. In fact, the last time I used chalkboard pens, I had to repaint the entire chalkboard wall. Not fun. So, I decided to try something new this time and I am totally convinced this is the best way to do it! Now, on with the tutorial.

Fall Chalkboard Art Tutorial:

1) Start by creating your design. If you use a Silhouette machine, create your design in the Silhouette Studio software. I purchased the wreath element for $.99 and created the text with fonts I already had. It took about 3 minutes to design. If you don't have a Silhouette, just create a design on your computer and print and cut it out. You can then use your cut out design as a template to cut your vinyl. This is what my cut files looked like {I was working with a limited amount of vinyl, so I had to be super careful with my placement–it would be easier to have typed out the text vertically, but that would have used more vinyl}.

2) Cut your design out of your vinyl.

3) Use your level to draw level lines on your chalkboard wall with chalk. You will erase these later.

4) Peel and stick your vinyl design on your wall, making sure to stay level using your chalk guide lines.

That's it! How easy is that? I didn't bother taking step-by-step photos because it's so easy AND because I only had about 20 minutes to tackle this project. Sorry!

I added this adorable acorn garland that I found at Target to the top of the chalkboard wall. And when I found the deer head at Target as well, I HAD TO BUY IT. OMG. Love it. It's perfect on our chalkboard wall! Take a closer look at how fabulous our chalkboard wall turned out.

  1. This totally caught my eye as I was browsing through the posts at the Bewitchin’ Block Party. I never thought to use vinyl on chalkboards but this turned out to gorgeous not to try. Thanks for the tips too on how to make the bigger letters. I’ve always just set my size on the Silhouette studio to 12×12… I need to experiment with some bigger images now!

I’ll also be featuring you tomorrow at this week’s Bewitchin’ Block Party. I hope you can link up with us again. Have a great weekend Tasha!!

  3. I love chalkboard anything! My family is moving in a week, and I want to create a chalkboard wall so bad, but I never thought about the vinyl! I’m going to pin this for later.
