You guys…as of today I have been blogging for 6 months.  Wow.  I can hardly believe it.  It has flown by.  Today I am taking a moment to process all that this blog has meant to me, and become, in the past 6 months.

I started this blog for many reasons.  At first, I thought, “I am going to doing all of these projects anyway, my friends and family may like to see our progress and maybe a few other people will read it, too.”  And then I started writing, and photographing, and POSTING.  I was addicted.  I had never really stopped to think before that blogging allows me to combine some of my absolute favorite things: writing, photography and DIY/crafting.  I wish I had started blogging sooner.

It is so cliche to say it, but blogging truly does feed my creative soul.  It makes me feel alive.  And even though it takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication {more than I could have ever imagined}, I genuinely love every minute of it and it never feels like “work.”

And as it turns out, a lot of you out there love what I am doing, too!  The response to my little blog has been totally overwhelming.  Seriously.  I am grateful for every single one of my readers and social media followers.  I mean it.  You all make this even more rewarding for me than it already was.  Just this week I received an email from a reader who completed her own DIY fireplace after seeing my post about ours.  It was beyond THRILLING to know that someone out there learned about a project from me and did it for herself.  Seriously awesome.

I am also SUPER excited to have “met” {through cyberspace} some of the most amazingly talented and sweet people I could have ever dreamed of.  It’s so rewarding to know there are so many people out there that I can relate to.  That’s something I have NEVER had before.  I have just never had friends who enjoy DIYing and crafting.  And now I do…YAY!

The biggest surprise to me is how amazingly gracious and kind so many of my favorite “big” bloggers are.  There is NO WAY my little blog would have as many readers and followers as it does without “shout outs” and promotion by some of my favorite blogs.  Remodelaholic has featured several of my posts and allowed me the HUGE honor of guest posting earlier this month {you can check it out here} and it is beyond generous to me in social media.  Thrifty Decor Chick has featured my painted vinyl floors and my family room reveal.  Apartment Therapy has featured several of my posts as well.  And there are COUNTLESS other amazing blogs who have featured posts of mine from link parties and promoted projects of mine via social media. So many of my readers and followers found me via other bloggers.  So, THANK YOU to all of the bloggers who have featured my work on their blogs and social media.  I am eternally grateful.

Now that you are sick of me rambling on about gushy stuff, I thought it would be fun for me to re-cap my most popular posts to date.  So, without further adieu, here they are:

1) How to Paint Your Vinyl Floors

You guys, the popularity of this post blows my socks off.  It has been re-pinned over 16,000 times so far.  WOW.  But here’s the TOTALLY embarrassing part.  THIS WAS NOT AN ORIGINAL IDEA OF MINE.  As I told you in my original post, I got this brilliant idea from Kelly at View Along the Way {check out her post here}.  It was Kelley’s brilliant idea.  I am super grateful that Kelly came up with this idea and shared it with her readers {which includes me!} so that I could create my own version and share it with you all!  And I am thrilled that everyone loves it so much.  You can check out my full post here if you have not already seen it.

 2) Ikea Hack– Customize Ikea Furniture with Paint

Not in a million years would I have guessed this would be so popular.  In fact, I came very, very close to NOT blogging about it.  I am so glad I did.  As it turns out, people love how I took inexpensive, basic Ikea pieces and turned them into custom “built-ins” using paint and some imagination.  You can check out the full post here.

3) DIY Photo Canvases with REAL Texture

The popularity of this post also surprised me because there are already TONS of DIY photo canvas tutorials out there.  I think my trick for “stamping” canvas texture on must be one of the reasons for why this project is so popular.  Who knew my little stamping idea would be so well-received?  I certainly did not!  You can check out all the details for creating real texture on DIY photo canvases here.

4) Playroom Reveal

Our reveal of Attley and Avery’s playroom has also been popular, which makes me happy because I just love how it turned out.  We turned a boring, beige box of a “formal” room into an inspiring, creative space for our twin girls.  We spend a whole lot of time in the playroom, so it was important for us to create a room that we would enjoy hanging out as adults and we do!  Success!  You can check out all the details of the playroom reveal here.

5) The Family Room Reveal

This post was popular and controversial!  Holy cow!  Some people out there {cough, some Apartment Therapy commenters} were NOT HAPPY that we removed the stone from our fireplace.  But we love, love, love our DIY concrete fireplace and are so happy we removed that stone!  We are also thrilled with the other DIY updates in this room, which included trading the carpet and bamboo flooring for ONE type of flooring, painting and updating the lighting.  You can check out the full details of the family room transformation and our recent lighting update.

Wow!  That was fun to walk back through 6 months of blogging.  Thanks for coming with me on the journey :)

Tasha, I am so excited for you and how your blog has taken off! That is so amazing! You are such a great person and I’m so glad that I have gotten to “meet” you and see your talent! I would say that if I had to pick just one favorite post, it would be your canvas post. I am definitely going to save a ton of money thanks to you! I love your laundry room too and sometimes I wish I had ugly vinyl floors so that I could paint pretty stripes on them to;)

Congrats on your 6 month blog anniversary! I love how your are transforming your house. I just recently moved and you’ve given me a lot of inspiration. Love all your projects but I’d say my favorites are a tie between your playroom and family room transformations. Great job!

This is a really tough choice. I’m choosing the photo canvas only because it’s my next project. Until I saw your tutorial I never thought I could make one of these myself. When I post mine, I would love to link back to your post if that’s ok. Thank you for all the inspiration.
